ACBA and YLD Compete In First Ever South Jersey Dragon Boat Race

On Saturday, July 9th, members of the YLD teamed up with members from the ACBA to compete in the first ever South Jersey Dragon Boat Festival to benefit Gilda’s Club South Jersey.

Our team was made up of 22 paddlers and 1 drummer. The festival began early at 8:30 am, with the first heat beginning at 9:30am. Our races took place at 9:50am and 1:30pm. Despite some of us never having met before, we were able to work together as a team and finished second in both of our races! Team Captain, Julie Nugent, was also recruited to serve as the drummer for race champs, the Machestic Dragons!

The day was filled with live music, lots of food trucks, family fun (bounce houses and a touch tank!), and a beautifully touching flower ceremony to honor and remember all lives impacted by cancer in South Jersey.

While we did not quite make it to the final championship races, we still had a ton of fun getting to know each other, working as a team, and being a part of a wonderful event. Thanks in part to our donors and sponsors, Gilda’s Club raised over $90,000 at the festival!

Thank you to all of our team members who donated their entire Saturday to paddle alongside us, all of our family and friends who came out to cheer us on, and our team sponsors – Weiss & Paarz Medical Malpractice Attorneys and Fox Rothschild – for supporting us!

We hope you will join us next year!
